Delivery Instructions
It’s always important to read delivery instructions. Diner’s use this opportunity to share some helpful insights like special parking or drop off areas.
Parking
If you’re unable to find parking, pull over and contact the diner to see if they’re able to come down to the street to grab the food from you, keeping in mind that this might not be possible. Oftentimes lunch orders are placed for delivery due to back to back meetings. A diner may not be able to answer your call or text, let alone leave the meeting to get food. They’re relying on you to deliver the food to the front desk where they can pick it up between meetings.
Building Security
Office buildings usually have different levels of security. Let the security guard know who you’re delivering for and what floor they’re on. And be ready to present your state issued ID and the order in your Grubhub for Drivers app to show that you have a delivery.
Receptionist
If there are no specific instructions left by the diner, you’ll likely wind up speaking to the receptionist at the front desk. Receptionists handle deliveries of all sorts and are extremely helpful, especially if you’re nice to them! Give them the name of the diner and they’ll instruct you to either leave the food with them or where to bring it to take it to the diner directly. If you can’t pronounce the diner’s name, feel free to spell it!
Here are some simple do’s and don’ts when delivering to a front desk:
DO
- Be prepared with the diner’s name and phone number...many offices will have dozens, if not HUNDREDS of employees, some with similar names.
- Be patient with the receptionists; they might be dealing with several other food orders as well as many other duties.
- Wait until the receptionist has confirmed the diner is in that office before handing them the food.
Please DO NOT
- Simply drop your delivery on the counter...as we said, offices will often get MANY orders at once, and if you do not even give them the name, the order may get lost in the shuffle and be mis-delivered!
- Shove your phone or the order sheet in the receptionist’s face.
