Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was recently signed into law to help millions of working individuals and families across the country who may be impacted by COVID-19. Should you or a family member get sick or if your income is disrupted by COVID-19, you may be eligible for direct financial assistance under the new law.
I heard Independent Contractors are now eligible for unemployment, is this true?
Drivers who are self-employed, including independent contractors, and who are unable to work as a direct result of COVID-19, may be eligible to receive compensation through a new temporary Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. The program will offer up to 39 weeks of assistance based on unemployment rates in your area, plus an additional $600 per week for up to 12 of those weeks. This program is operating now through December 31, 2020.
While this is a federally mandated program, the guidelines for qualification, especially for gig economy workers such as Grubhub Delivery Partners, is determined on a state-by-state basis.
Given the broad eligibility criteria, Grubhub can’t guarantee you’ll meet the requirements in your state. You can check your state’s specific requirements here.
What is the process and when do I need to contact Grubhub?
The process is as follows:
- Review the requirements of your state here and submit your application per those requirements.
- If needed, the state agency will reach out to Grubhub for more information regarding our partnership with you
At this time Grubhub is unaware of a reason why you personally would need to contact us. If this changes we will update this information.
What is the Stimulus Check?
You may be eligible to receive a stimulus check with a direct payment of up to $1,200 (individuals) or $2,400 (married couples who filed a joint tax return), with an additional $500 payment for each dependent child.
We encourage you to visit IRS.gov for more information about the CAREs act.
