How is Grubhub supporting drivers who have tested positive with COVID-19?
If you become sick with COVID-19 and cannot work, Grubhub is offering a one-time pay adjustment to help with medical expenses and loss of income.
Grubhub’s driver support pay is to support our delivery partners who have:
- Been diagnosed with COVID-19
- Been ordered by a public health authority or licensed medical provider to self-isolate due to a risk of spreading COVID-19
- Had their Grubhub for Drivers account individually restricted as a result of information provided to Grubhub by a public health authority regarding a risk of spreading COVID-19 (this does not include restrictions due to state or city wide mandates)
The circumstances surrounding COVID-19 are changing rapidly, and we expect they will continue to do so over the coming weeks and months ahead.
Furthermore, Grubhub has created a fund that will enable proceeds from its Donate the Change program to go toward charitable organizations that support restaurants and drivers impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis. The program will allow diners to round up the change from every order and donate it to the Grubhub Community Relief Fund – with donations from Grubhub+ (and Seamless+) members being matched by the company. Grubhub has been raising more than $1 million dollars per month through Donate the Change.
Grubhub will work with local officials to identify organizations that can utilize the funds and to consider other support programs during the pandemic.
Who is eligible for the one time pay adjustment?
*To qualify for this program you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Been diagnosed with COVID-19
- Been ordered by a public health authority or licensed medical provider to self-isolate due to a risk of spreading COVID-19
- Have had their Grubhub for Drivers account individually restricted as a result of information provided to Grubhub by a public health authority regarding a risk of spreading COVID-19 (this does not include restrictions due to state or city wide mandates)
Additionally you must:
- Have completed at least one delivery with Grubhub in the last 30 days from the request date
- Have documentation from a licensed medical provider or public health authority that you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or an order from a licensed medical provider or public health authority to self-isolate due to the risk of spreading COVID-19. The documentation must specifically reference your risk of spreading COVID-19 as the reason for self-isolation.
- Submit a request via the Grubhub driver support pay form
What documentation do I need to submit to be considered for driver support pay?
*Drivers will need to provide Grubhub with proof of a diagnosis of COVID-19 in the form of either:
- Documentation from a licensed medical provider or public health authority OR
- An order by a licensed medical provider or public health authority requiring you to self-isolate due to your risk of spreading COVID-19
The documentation must specifically reference your risk of spreading COVID-19 as the reason for self-isolation.
How long will the driver support pay approval process take?
You should allow 5 business days for eligibility to be confirmed, assuming required documentation is provided in a timely manner. At that time, you will be notified whether or not the request was approved.
Once approved, how long will it take for me to receive my driver support pay?
As long as the proper documentation has been submitted and validated, you will receive driver support pay within two pay periods of submitting your request.
How will driver support pay be calculated?
In order to be respectful of the hard work and dedication of each of our delivery partners, Grubhub will be issuing a one-time payment of 2 weeks worth of earnings. This will be calculated for each delivery partner based on their average earnings over the last 3 weeks. No payout amount will be lower than $100 for any individual driver.
Can I continue to deliver with Grubhub during the request process?
*Per the CDC’s recommendation to help prevent the spread of infectious disease, you should stay home if you are feeling sick. If at any point in time you: (i) test positive for COVID-19, or (ii) are contacted by health authorities directly regarding potential exposure, please disengage with deliveries immediately.
If you feel sick or are notified by a public health authority or licensed medical provider to self-isolate due to a risk of spreading COVID-19 while you’re on a current delivery or block, pull over to the side of the road and contact our Care team immediately. They will assist you.
How is my driver profile handled during this process?
Grubhub has created a process to seamlessly help you with temporarily getting off the road while you recover. Within 24 hours of submitting a driver support pay request, Grubhub will:
- Remove all remaining blocks without impacting your program level
- Temporarily deactivate your Grubhub Driver account for 14 days
If you already notified the Grubhub Care team that you were sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 prior to submitting your request, your Grubhub driver account and blocks will already be taken care of.
After the 14-day period is over, please reach out to Grubhub to reactivate your Grubhub for Drivers account. Once your account is reactivated, you can start delivering with Grubhub again. There will be no impact to your program level status or your Grubhub driver card.
What will Grubhub do for drivers if a city or state shuts down Grubhub's service?
If Grubhub were to fully cease operations in a city or state due to COVID-19, Grubhub will work with local governments to understand how best to support drivers. Driver support pay will not apply in any case of a broader suspension of Grubhub’s operations in a location or city.
I meet the above eligibility requirements, how do I request support pay?
To request support pay, drivers should follow request instructions and submit all necessary information using the Grubhub driver support pay request form.
* If you are a driver in California or Philadelphia, or have taken deliveries in Seattle in the last 90 days, different eligibility criteria and calculation methods may apply.
