Here's a checklist of things to do before hitting the road
- Ensure your bicycle and safety equipment are in good working order (brakes, headlight, tail light & helmet)
- Make sure your phone is charged and in a secure place
- Protect yourself from the elements: dress for the weather, use sunscreen if needed and be sure to have a bottle of water
- Don't forget a delivery bag! Backpacks can be purchased in the Driver Gear section of the app or the Driver Shop website
Here are some tips on how to bike safely
To make sure your deliveries go smoothly, we’d like to share a few safety tips.
When biking, please make sure you:
- Wear a helmet
- Obey traffic signs and signals
- Watch out for car doors
- Stay visible with bright clothes
- Have a headlight
- Use your bell to alert others
- Avoid wearing earphones
- If you need to check your phone, pull over safely
Some important bike safety laws to follow
Your safety is one of our top priorities. While biking laws vary by state and city, here’s a good example from the NYC Department of Transportation to follow.
When completing deliveries, please make sure you:
- Ride in the street, not on sidewalks
- Use marked bike lanes or paths when available
- Always ride with traffic, not against it
- Stop at red lights and stop signs
- Cross an intersection when the signal shows to “walk,” unless there’s a bike symbol
- If the road is narrow you have the right to ride in the middle of the travel lane
- Always look out for pedestrians
- Use a white headlight and a red tail light
- Use a bell or horn and reflectors
